Jay Reatard

Black Lips

I have the worst hangover of my life.

superchunk – part one

Superchunk was the first band I ever got in to.  I remember sitting in my parents basement as a kid watching a BMX video my brother brought home.  I think it was called 44 something by S&M. The song featured was fishing and i nearly blew my lid when I heard it.  I had no idea music that good existing (silly me).  From that point on I began to collect all things superchunk.

Rather than recycling superchunk facts, i’ve put up all their records plus some treats for download. Do me a favour, if you like these releases, go to www.mergerecords.com and purchase them…their worth every penny.

Seaweed has been one of my favourite bands for as long as I can remember. When I heard about a potential reunion, I rushed to the internet to see if they were going to play Toronto.  Much to my dismay, they aren’t.  But all hope isn’t lost yet, various sources have indicated a potential winter tour is in the works….maybe its bogus, who knows.

In the meantime, enjoy some photo’s I took from a show in ’95.

i’ve quit my job and it’s the best decision i’ve ever made.

GO ME

Thursday

I decided to start my weekend a little bit early last week. Knowing full well that I’ve never been able to work after a brutal knights show, I decided to contact my employer and book the following day off. Awesome, day off.

The night started off at Ben’s house where he entertained us with some pretty ridiculous jazz records and shots of gin. I don’t know about you but in all my years of drinking, I’ve never sat down and swilled repeated shots of gin….shit tastes like Christmas trees. After a couple hours, we ventured to mitzi’s sister to check out marvelous darlings and a friend of mine who was djing inbetween sets (nice work christine). I had no idea there were shows at this place.  When I lived in parkdale my brother and I used to go there for their excellent huevos racheros.  Anyway, after an hour or so of hangin’ around with my friend dear friend Labatt Fifty, they took the stage (ground).  They put on a pretty decent…not as good as the first time I saw them but they were still good.

After their set I rolled down to the silver dollar to check out brutal knights and CPC Gangbangs.  I love this venue; the sound is great, the beer is somewhat cheap and theres always a good vibe…can’t wait to see Jay Reatard here.  Anyway, as soon as I walked in the door, BK went on stage.  Within seconds beers were flying, people were falling and I lost a shoe (dont worry, i found it).  I’ve seen BK many times and they’ve yet to disappoint me.

CPC Gangbangs took the stage after BK and played one of the best sets i’ve seen all year.  I highly suggest picking up their new record.

All in all it was a great night.  This night was exactly what I needed.

welcome to shit street

Well I did it. After months of putting procrastinating, I’ve finally set up my blog. I had no idea how much thought goes in to a blog; what image to chose as the header, what my first post would be and most importantly, what the URL will be, etc, etc.

I haven’t really set a guideline as to what will be posted on here so chances are it will probably be pretty random. Feel free to comment on anything I post (love or hate).

 Anyway, enjoy.
